After the death of Constance’s mother, T-Reen, Constance and Pam are in the house drinking. Pam is considered the black sheep or outcast of the family.  John, Constance’s brother, and Pastor Barbara comes to the house to check on Constance. To their surprise, Pam is there and both of them are drinking. Constance begins to lash out.

John:                Okay Connie!  You’re drunk.  Be careful you‘re walking a thin line.

Constance:       Not as thin as those so call hypocrites who are saying one thing and doing another.  There will be a lot of so called Christians who are going to bust hell wide open.

John:                So what does that have to do with you?

Pam:                What do you mean?

John:                Just like you were born in this world by yourself, you will die and be judged by yourself.  Everyone will be held accountable for his or her action.  (points at Constance)  So you mean to tell me that you are going to allow people to stop you from doing what you are supposed to do.

Constance:       (yarns) No and right now, I am going to bed, because what you guys are talking about is putting me to sleep.  You and the good old Pastor can just have church by yourselves.

John:                Connie, you still need to watch what you say.

Constance:       Whatever, Pam let’s go.

Pam:                I’m going to stay for awhile.

Constance:       (raises her hand up)  Suite yourself.  Good luck.

(Constance walks out the room.  There is silence for awhile. Pam starts whining.)

Barbara:           What’s wrong child?

Pam:                Everyone has lost their minds.  Nothing is the same anymore.  I don’t know if I am coming or going.  I need help and I don’t know what to do.

John:                Pam, when you are ready for God to come into your life, he will.  And let me tell you this.  When God become Lord over your life, you will never be the same.  Pam, if not tonight, then maybe tomorrow.

(Pam looks at her watch)

Pam:                Okay, John.  As T-Reen would say, if it is the Lord’s will, I will see you in the morning.

(Pam gets up and starts walking.  Pastor Barbara looks at John and stands up.)

Barbara:           Sis. Pamela!  Stop!

(Pam stops in her tracks, turns around and drops the bag out of her hand.)

Pamela:            What’s wrong?  You called me Sis. Pamela.  What I am going to die or something?

(Pastor Barbara, not noticing the bag on the floor, turns and taps John on his arm.)

John:                (shocked tone) What?

Barbara:           (looks John in the eyes) Never do something tomorrow that you are suppose to do today.  Tomorrow is not promised and it may be too late.  The devil was waiting for her to go to sleep, so he could continue to deposit lies and every form of deceit in her mind to move her farther and farther away from God.  John, I know you know better.

John:                Oh! My God!  Pastor Barbara, I am so sorry.  (looks up in the air) God please forgive me.

Barbara:           That’s right.  Now we have work to do.

(Pastor Barbara and John walk over to Pam.  John notices the bag and bends down to pick it up.)

John:                (holds the bag in the air) What is this, Pam!  I know you weren’t doing drugs in my mother’s house?

(Pam says nothing, but tries to take it from him.)

John:                (loud tone) Answer me Pam!

Pam:                (sarcastic tone) Well, since you gotta know.  (snatches the bag) I wasn’t doing it in your momma’s house.  I was doing it in my Aunt’s house.
(John grabs Pam by the arm.  Pam jerks away.  Pastor Barbara stands in between the both of them.)

Barbara:           John!  I know you’re angry, but this is not the way you handle things.

Pam:                (points at John)  You are a hypocrite!  Just like the rest of them.  You stood there and repented to God.  Then you turned around and put your hands on me.  (sarcastic tone)  You are no better than me.  You just wear it differently.

John:                (raises his hand in the air)  Pastor Barbara, I am sorry, but I am so mad right now.  (looks at Pam)  See that’s where you are wrong.  I have problems just like you.  I have done some things in my life, that I was not proud of.  But you know what, that was then and this is now.  Did you forget?  It was my mother that I lost.  (walks slowly) It hurts like crazy.  Just because I don’t show my emotions doesn’t mean that I don’t cry at night.  Just because I don’t show my emotions it doesn’t mean that I love my mother less than anyone else.   But in spite of it all, I must trust and depend on Jesus.

Pam:                Look, I know you lost your momma.  I lost my momma three years ago and then I lost the only other person who was loved me like I was her own child.  T-Reen was not only my Aunt (pauses and sniffs) John, T-Reen was like a mother to me.  You don’t understand.  I am going out of my mind.  I am hurting right now and I don’t know which way to go or what to do.  (wipes her eyes, holds the bag up and smiles)  And besides, this is my quicker picker upper.

(John snatches the bag and Pam tries to grab it back.)

Pam:                Man!  You don’t get it.  T-Reen was the only one who understood me.  I love her.  Now, she is gone and I don’t know what else to do.

John:                Yeah, right.  You talk about how much you loved momma and how she understood you.  Well, Pam!  Tell me this.  If you loved momma so much, then why would you disrespect her by doing drugs in her house like that.  If you loved her the way you claim, then why would you destroy your life with that junk?  News flash!  Once you get off your high, momma will still be dead.

Pam:                Shut up!  (puts her hands over her ears)  Just shut up!  Stop saying things like that.  I wouldn’t do anything to hurt T-Reen and you know it.  I just need a little help.

(Pam turns her back and tries to take a sniff, but is unable to do so because Pastor Barbara and John are both looking at her.)

Pam:                What!

John:                (throws his hands up)  Look at you!  (points his finger at Pam)  You haven’t heard a word I just said to you.  I can’t take it anymore.  I am sorry Pastor Barbara.  Maybe you can help her.

(John slowly walks to another room.  Pam tries to stop him and John jerks away.)

Pam:                (loud tone)  No!  John, don’t you walk away from me!  Don’t do this to me!  I need you to understand!  I don’t know what else to do.  John!  Please!  (falls to the floor)  T-Reen is gone.  Who will help me now?  There is no one else who can help me.

Barbara:           My child, that is where you are wrong.

(Pam gets up and looks at Pastor Barbara.  She shakes her head and
throws her hands in the air.)

Pam:                (loud tone) I don’t need to hear a sermon from you on what I did wrong.  I don’t need to hear a lot of religious mumble jumble right now from you Pastor Barbara.  (looks around to John)  You are against me too.  Everyone is against me.  (sobs)  T-Reen was the only one who loved me no matter what I did or said.  Oh, my God!  I don’t know what to do.

Barbara:           Well you are off to a good start.

Pam:                How!  Look at me!  My life is a mess!  My God, Pastor Barbara. I am hopeless.  If I died, no one would miss me or even care that I am gone. (screams at John)  Not even my cousin!

Barbara:           That’s where you are wrong my child.  I care.  John does cares, and most of all God cares.

Pam:                I can’t tell.  Everyone else has turned their backs on me.  How can I expect more than that from God.

Barbara:           Because you are his child.  You belong to him.  Of course he cares for you.  And most of all, God loves you just the way you are.

Pam:                Really?

Barbara:           Yes, really.  (holds her hand)  Do you want your life to change?

Pam:                (excited tone) Oh! Yes Mam!  I really do!

Barbara:           Then I need you to repeat after me.

Pam:                Okay.

(Pastor Barbara leads Pam to the sinner’s prayer…….)
