Book Info (Hindrance)

Hindrance “Who Or What Is Holding You Back?”
This book was inspired by God and designed to identify some of the areas that have been
strategically placed to block the plan of God for our lives. Although the title speaks for itself, we
must ask ourselves a question. What is holding us back from fulfilling our God given destiny or
becoming all that God has called and created us to be?
I believe that once we began to identify what is holding us back then we can move forward into our
God given destiny.

Introduction (Book Excerpt)

There are people who are not fulfilling their God-given dreams.  Many are walking around without purpose or true meaning for their lives.  There are very few people who can tell you what their plans are for the future.  Some people are so wrapped up and tied up with the cares of the world, that they can’t tell you what they are going to do for the rest of the day.

So how do we begin to find our way back to obtaining God‘s perfect will for our lives?  Let’s start by identifying those areas, which have become a hindrance in our lives.  Before we can identify those areas, we must have an understanding of the word “hindrance”.  Hindrance1 is defined as the act of hindering or state of being hindered; or one that hinders.  The word “hinder” is defined as to get in the way of: hamper; to impede or delay the progress of; or to interfere with the process of.2  In other words, when something or someone is hindering you, they are trying to impede, delay, interfere, obstruct, block or get in the way of your progress.

One of the attacks of the enemy, Satan, is to turn us away or block us from receiving what God has for us.  Sometimes the answer to our prayers is staring us right in the face, but because of fear of the unknown and lack of faith (a form of hindrance) it takes longer to receive it.

NOW FAITH is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.  (Hebrews 11:6).

Many of us would begin a project and because of various obstacles, whether it is people, places, lack of money and even lack of faith, we stop what we have begun.  I found myself telling my son, over and over again, about stopping right in the middle of something when things would get a little hard for him or he didn’t fully understand what was going on.  If he didn’t have a good grip on something, he would just simply let it go.  In time, my son has learned how to continue even if the road ahead seems both distant and unclear.

In the Bible, the disciples were unable to cast a demon out of a boy.  Prior to Jesus rebuking the devil, He replied to them by saying, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you?”3  Once Jesus rebuked the devil, the disciples wondered in their minds as to why they were not able to cast the devil out.  Jesus simply told them that it was due to their unbelief.  Although they had the authority to cast out the devil, they did not believe it was possible.

This is where many of us fall short.  We have been given the authority to do all things, but because of our unbelief or lack of faith, we fail to exercise our authority over the enemy.

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.  (Matthew 17:20)

We are told that all we need is faith as a grain of mustard seed4 to move the mountains in our lives.  A dear friend, Dorinda Phillips, gave me a small jar of mustard seeds.  The very first time I saw a mustard seed, I begin to feel just as small as the seed itself.  I took a seed out of the jar and taped it to my finger.  My God!  I couldn’t believe my eyes.  As I continued to look at the size of this seed, my heart fell.  Tears began to fall from my eyes.  The Word of God became alive to me like never before.

Just think about this for a moment with me.  God is not asking us to lay down our lives, for He took care of this over 2,000 years ago through His Son, Jesus Christ.  God is not asking us to jump through hoops.  He is only asking us to have just a little bit of faith in Him.  With “Mustard Seed” faith, we will be able to have the power and authority, through Jesus Christ, over the mountain of poverty, oppression, depression, sickness and pain.

Now, don’t think that because you have “Mustard Seed” faith or “Great” faith that you will not experience any trials or tribulations.  As long as Satan is still on his job, you will experience trials and tribulations along the way.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.  (James 1:2-3)

I don’t know about you, but there have been some situations in my life that caused me to stop, take a second look, and wonder how I made it through.  It is then that I am reminded over and over again that it was no goodness of my own.  It had nothing to do with my education, or financial status.  What financial status?  I can truly say without any hesitation whatsoever that it was “NOBODY BUT JESUS”.

As men and women of God, we should not be surprised when the enemy comes after us.  I would always tell people that if the enemy is always on your back or attacking you with one thing after the other, then you must be doing something right for God.  The enemy will never attack someone he has possession, control or ownership of.  You should begin to worry when the enemy does not attack you.

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.  (I Peter 4:12-13)

The Bible tells us that Jesus overcame the world through His birth, death, burial and resurrection.  If Jesus, our Lord and Savior; overcame the world, then why are we living defeated lives.  Instead of living a victorious life, the type of life God intended for His children to live from the foundation of the world, we are living from paycheck to paycheck, or as the world would say, “stealing from Peter to pay Paul”.  We are getting in more debt just to get out of debt.  According to the Word of God, we are supposed to be the head and not the tail – above only and not beneath.  In other words, as born again Christians, we should be in the forefront and not keeping up the rear.

There are those who have been keeping up the rear for so long that in their mind this position in life has become part of the norm.  THE DEVIL IS A LIAR!  It is time for us to recognize who we are and whose we are in Jesus Christ.  You have the power and authority through Jesus Christ to speak things into existence.  Whether you have a dime or a dollar in your pocket or bank account, you can speak a financial blessing over your life and expect it to occur in Jesus name. Once again, regardless of what you are faced with, God has given you the authority and victory over everything the enemy throws your way!

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (Romans 1:17)

I am a living testimony of someone who walks by faith.  My entire life has been a faith walk.  Like many of you, the enemy was trying to kill me ever since the day I was born.  Despite all that the devil tried to do to destroy me, God said I would live and not die.  I am saying to you, that you will live and not die!  Just take a few minutes and say to yourself, “I will live and not die”!  In Jesus name!
Just writing this book is a faith walk in itself.  I would pick up the manuscript, complete a couple of pages and then put it down.  This went on for years.  Eventually, I ended up not only putting the manuscript down, but the dream of writing down as well.  God used the title of this book, to prompt me to keep on going.  I realized, through the title, that the only person keeping me from writing this book was me.  I didn’t have enough faith in God to believe that He would use someone like me, with no former education or experience in writing, to do something that will one day touch the lives of His people.  I had to take my eyes off of my past and what I thought I was not capable of doing and place them on the one who can do everything but fail.  If God said it, He will surely bring it to pass.  AMEN!!!

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. (Proverbs 3:5-7)
